At Sara's Table/Chester Creek Cafe

This past weekend, my mom and I were pretty active.  We kayaked, when for a walk at the Lake and Chester Park, but my favorite part of the weekend was having lunch At Sara's Table.

Our eyes were bigger than our stomachs, but it was well worth it.  We started off with lemonade out on the deck while we waited for a table.  Once we got a table, we were excited to see so many Gluten Free and Vegan options.  Even their bakery has gluten free and vegan options.

Our appetizer was the Truffle Fries.  They are the best fries I've ever had.  I wish my mom knew how to make them because they are soooooooo yummy.  We should have stopped with the fries, but we each ordered a meal.  I got their Classic Meat Omelet and my mom had the Breakfast Burrito.  Let's just say the serving size was HUGE and our plates were full.  We're glad that they had take out containers, because we barely made a dent in our plates.

If you're in the Duluth area and looking for a great place to eat, give At Sara's Table a try.  You won't be disappointed.

Father's Day Weekend

I got to spend Father's Day weekend with my dad and I also got to see my two grandpas.  We got to my dad's on Thursday night.  It was too late to do anything fun, so we chillaxed and watched some TV.

On Friday, I got to make my own breakfast and then in the afternoon I went shopping for Father's Day presents for my dad and grandpas.  I also got to have lunch at the Tap House for lunch.  I got my dad some chocolate and Diet Mountain Dew.  I got one grandpa pistachios and meat sticks and my other grandpa spice drops, which are his favorite.  Friday night I got to go for a motorcycle ride with my dad.  It was a lot of fun to be on the motorcycle.  We also stopped for dinner for walleye...yummy.

On Saturday we didn't do much during the day, but that night we had pizza for dinner and went to the play.  They were doing Grease, which is one of my favorites.  The actors did a great job and we had a lot of fun.

For Father's Day, I gave my dad a hug and kiss and wished him a very happy Father's Day week.  My dad is very special to me.  He raised me to be exactly who I am.  I'm lucky to have a dad who loves me for who I am and who I want to be.  My dad is one of the most wonderful and kind people I've ever known.  I hope you got to spend time with your dad this Father's Day.

Review of Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway

This past weekend my mom and I went to see Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway.  The movie continues the story of Peter Rabbit, Bea, and Mr. McGregor, and all of the other animals.  In this movie, Bea's book about Peter becomes very popular.  A famous publisher loved so much that he wanted to make it into a series of books.

The publisher created a billboard that made Peter look like the "bad seed".  When Peter saw it, he felt bad and ran away.  He met another rabbit, Barnabas, who he thought was a friend of his dad's.  Barnabas turned out to be a thief who stole food from the farmers market.  Barnabas thought Peter would fit into his gang and tricked him into having all of his friends help them steal all of the dried fruit from the Farmers Market.

In the end, Peter learned his lesson.  He learned that his family - Bea, Mr. McGregor, and all the animals loved him.  He made sure that all the fruit was returned to the girl from the market.  They returned home to the country and Bea decided to write more books, but not the crazy ones her publisher wanted.  She would continue to write stories of the fun times the animals had in the country.

You will like all mischief that Peter gets into in this movie.  I give this movie 4 out of 5 stars.

Making Brownies

So the weather finally cooled down and the house is at a normal temperature.  That means mom will let me use the oven.  So we made brownies.  We used a gluten free mix that I got from my Bethel housing mentor, Sophie.  She gave it to me before we left for the summer.

They were yummy!  What treats do you enjoy?

One of my Favorite Summer Dresses

This is my favorite summer dress.  It is a nice casual dress that can be worn any day or to summer weddings.

I like this dress so much because it has a pretty pattern and blue is one of my favorite colors.  The style of the dress is perfect for me because it has no waist and flows gently down my body.  Wearing it makes me happy and feel fantastic.

I hope you find your favorite summer dress!  When you do, let me know.

Review of Cruella

Today my mom and I saw Cruella at the theatre in Duluth.  When I was a kid, I saw the cartoon and I thought she was just a mean, old lady who hated Dalmatians.  The live-action movie I saw today tells the story of how Estella became Cruella.

Estella was a like the class trouble maker.  She was always doing bad things and getting into fights.  She was so bad that she got expelled and had to move to London.  On their to London, her mom stopped at a party for some help.  Estella caused all kinds of trouble.  In the end, Estella's mom met a horrible fate and Estella ended up in London alone.

In London, Estella met up with two orphan boys who let her stay with them.  For 10 years they grew up on the streets stealing things to survive.  Estella got her dream of working for the one of the best fashion stores doing the cleaning.  It was a horrible job and her boss was a mean, old, cranky fish.

One night, after cleaning, she drank alcohol from her boss's office and she completely ruined the window display.  The next morning, when she was woken up in the window, her boss was angry and fired her.  Right at that time, the best designer in the country came into the store and hired her to be a designer.  That was Estella's dream.

This designer was called the Baroness.  It turns out that the Baroness was a mean, nasty woman who stole other designers work.  Estella was one of her best designers.  Estella found out a lot of bad things about the Baroness and the truth about what happened to her mother and her past.  This made Estella angry and made her want to do bad things.  This is where she became Cruella.

I can't tell you more without giving the movie away, so I will stop here.  What I can tell you is that at the end of the movie, I really liked Cruella.  She is both nice and evil and I can understand both sides of her.

If I had to rate this movie, I would give 5 stars for really awesome and fantastic.

I'm Happy Living in Duluth

Last year my mom got a promotion and we moved to Duluth.  I was exited to move, but I was sad to leave my BFF Kate.  We have lived in Duluth for almost a year and I am surprised about how easy it was to stay in touch with Kate and how much I like Duluth.

Since we have moved here, we bought a house on a lake, I visited the airport and got to sit in a small plane, we have been to the theatre (after COVID) to see Charlotte's Web, we have eaten at many restaurants, but my favorite was At Sarah's Table.  We have also done a lot of walking on trails and I am learning how to kayak.  My mom even tried to plant a garden.  It froze because she planted too early 😆

I didn't spend the whole year here because I went to Bethel University.  I get to spend the summer with my mom doing fun things.  She is taking every Friday off of work to be with me.  Tomorrow we are going to get pedicures, see a movie - Cruella, get new plants for the garden, and hopefully meet with the Voc Rehab lady to try to get a summer job.

We are going to have a busy summer and I can't wait.  I will keep you posted and give you my review of Cruella.

Welcome to Hatte's World

Hi!  My name is Hatte and this is my new blog.  I am starting this blog because I want to be a journalist.  I want to write about fashion, plays, movies, and my life.  I am a 21-year-old, independent woman with Down Syndrome and this blog will help me fulfill my dreams.

It is now summer 2021, and I just finished my first year at Bethel University in the BUILD program.  Now that I am home for summer, I am looking forward to spending time with my mom playing board games, baking, knitting, exploring new walking trails, and kayaking. I am also trying to get a summer job so that I have more to do and more to write about.

I am excited to share my world with you and get to know you all better too.
